CIoT opens up shop in Second Life

Tax Anderton, the avatar representing the CIoT, is to wander through Second Life dolling out tax advice for people in an online environment

Written by Paul Grant

Yet another example of the profession trying to connect with 'yoof' comes from the Chartered Institute of Taxation, which is dipping its toe into the virtual world that is Second Life.

Tax Anderton, the avatar representing the CIoT, is to wander through Second Life dolling out tax advice for people in an online environment.

CIoT president Rob Ellerby believes that people buying and selling in this environment may not realise they could be liable for tax.

Many businesses already provide services through this virtual world with the Dutch affiliate of Baker Tilly, Berk, operating a pixel-based office there.
