Private equity veteran to be grilled by MPs

Head of Alchemy partners Jon Moulton to be hauled before Treasury select committee

Nicholas Neveling, Accountancy Age 27 Jun 2007

Jon Moulton, the head of Alchemy partners, has been summoned to appear before the the Treasury select committee as MPs once again throw the private equity industry into the spotlight.

Last week the committee grilled the bosses of Permira, 3i, Carlyle and KKR on tax and job lossess. Now Moulton, an accountant who has been an outspoken supporter of the industry, is to appear before the committee along with Blackstone's David Blitzer, Peter Taylor of Duke Street Capital and a senior representative from CVC.

The session, which will be held next Tuesday, is expected to be an explosive one. Moulton is known for his tough and uncompromising business manner and is unlikely to put up with the sarcastic and aggressive line of questioning from MPs that characterised the last hearing involving buyout bosses.
