Betfair CTO leaves by "mutual consent"

Search is underway for a replacement

Written by Tom Young

Online betting firm Betfair's chief technology officer (CTO) Rorie Devine has left the company by mutual consent.

Devine – a former winner of Computing's IT Leader of the Year award – had been with the company for four and a half years, and was CTO since 2006.

Betfair's chief executive David Yu said today that Devine had transformed the IT department from that of a growing start-up to one which powers one of the most successful internet businesses.

"He introduced processes and rigour that resulted in our site becoming more stable, performing better, and having more headroom than ever," said Yu.

"He also led the department through exceptional growth with headcount tripling and the inclusion of many new products across our portfolio. He leaves with my sincere thanks for all his contributions."

Betfair has employed headhunters to look for a new CTO.

Devine was unavailable for comment.
