City staff stay connected during holidays

Paranoia and unrealistic demands from employers drive constant access to corporate networks, says study

Written by Angelica Mari

City workers will be accessing corporate networks and contacting the office constantly even during their holidays, according to research.

As the credit crunch hammers the financial services industry, 83 per cent of 300 City professionals surveyed said they will take their mobile phone or Blackberry with them to keep in contact with work when they are away.

And more than a quarter of those polled said they would access their email while on holiday and would take their laptops with them, said the report carried out by Credant Technologies.

"Whether it is paranoia on the part of employees, or unrealistic demands from employers, the fact is that this summer numerous workers will be accessing corporate networks from all over the globe," said the report.
