Capita posts strong half-year results

Outsourcing giant unveils strong growth in revenue and profit, and predicts a healthy future

Written by Janie Davies

Capita reported a 20 per cent increase in revenue, to £1.18bn, for the first half of 2008, compared with £985m for the same period last year.

Profit was up 18 per cent to £140.6m, compared with £118.9m for the first half of 2007.

A series of contract wins in the first half of 2008 has continued into the second, said Paul Pindar, chief executive of the group.

“Capita has made strong progress in 2008. Our businesses across the group have
performed well and we have secured new and renewed major contracts worth £626m in the first six months of the year," he said.

"The second half of the year has also started strongly, with a further £187m of new and renewed contracts secured in July 2008."

"Our successes in 2007 and progress in the first half of 2008 mean that the ingredients for a successful year are already in place.”
