Nevis Networks seeks partners after taking first UK market steps

LAN security vendor Nevis Networks has made its first official foray into the UK market and is looking to set up a channel.

The firm has appointed Matthew Nunney as European managing director to oversee its channel development, and is making a play for a share of the growing network access control (NAC) marketplace.

Its products include the LANenforcer appliance, which supports up to 1,000 users and maintains 10Gbps of security processing at wire speed. It is also available as a secure access switch for firms looking to upgrade their network infrastructure.

Nunney said: “The fundamentally new part of our technology for the channel is the fact that switching and security all comes in one product.

“There is a whole raft of security integrators out there that have existed on the [networking] periphery for some time. We can help these guys make a play for the core [networking] infrastructure market,” he added.

Nunney claimed that although giants such as Cisco are seen as competition, Nevis products boast the fastest LAN speed and work on multiple platforms with multiple interfaces.

“We have the product that Cisco would have built if it was still doing product development, instead of concentrating on product acquisition,” he claimed

He said Nevis is looking for a small number of channel partners rather than recruiting large numbers.

“We are looking for partners that understand the opportunity in the marketplace and can help us build a firm foothold in the UK,” he said.

Nunney added that key markets for the vendor include construction and aerospace, pharmaceuticals, legal and the public sector.

Clive Longbottom, service director at analyst Quocirca, said Nevis has a good chance in this relatively new market.

“[LAN security] is still an emerging market with no real 500lb gorilla already there. Therefore, Nevis stands just as much chance as anyone else.

It is likely that the winners in this space will be those that can create a wire-speed, all encompassing security

solution.” C
