Tandberg eases concern over Codian acquisition

Vendor promises no changes to support or products as acquisition of UK firm completes

Written by Laura Hailstone

Tandberg has claimed it is business as usual for Codian channel partners following the completion of its acquisition of the videoconferencing (VC) infrastructure vendor.

Last month, video communications vendor Tandberg announced its intention to acquire Codian for $270m (£132m).

Paul Gullett, Tandberg’s president of EMEA, told CRN: “The message for Codian’s channel is don’t worry, nothing changes. They should continue to sell Codian products and will continue to receive the same support.”

Mark Loney, vice president of marketing at Codian, added: “The time was right for combining forces with Tandberg. We launched our high-definition VC bridges at the start of the year and experienced a lot of growth as a result.

“We were a small team and it’s always hard to grow beyond a certain point when you’re a small firm, so we feel our partners will benefit greatly from this acquisition.”

The acquisition gives Tandberg’s partners access to Codian’s range of multipoint control units, gateways, VC content servers and management software.

Asked if Codian’s products would remain branded as Codian, Gullett said: “We have not made any decisions on this yet, but we will continue to develop and support the Codian product lines.”

Barry Cross, managing director of Review Video UK, Codian’s sole UK distributor, said: “We are thrilled about the acquisition. It will enable both Codian and ourselves to widen the videoconferencing market and claim a bigger share of it.”
