OpenText ECM tools integrate with Office 2007

OpenText in the Office

Written by Tracy Caldwell

OpenText is to make its enterprise content management (ECM) tools accessible through the Microsoft Office 2007 application range.

OpenText will combine the information lifecycle management (ILM) and content management facilities of its ECM software with the 2007 Microsoft Office editions and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

The combination of the ECM and the content services delivered by Microsoft and the Office SharePoint Server 2007 platform will allow OpenText to offer a series of solutions for requirements such as contract management, litigation support and regulated documents.

The ECM system will have four layers: the user layer, where users will access content management tools through Office; the business layer consisting of SharePoint Uniform Services, ECM components and Open Text Functional extensions; the transactional repository layer; and the enterprise library layer, which handles long-term storage of content.
