OUP stacks its e-books on OCLC's shelves

Oxford University Press makes a range of e-books available worldwide

Written by Laura Smith

A range of e-book titles published by Oxford University Press (OUP) is to be made available to libraries worldwide as a result of a deal OUP has struck with non-profit library service OCLC NetLibrary.

The titles, previously only available digitally through OUP’s Oxford Scholarship Online product (OSO), will now be on sale through the NetLibrary platform, which is used by more than 15,000 libraries around the world.

OUP’s growing e-book collection includes English, French, Spanish and German dictionaries and medical texts.

The collection also features more than 60 titles from the OUP reference series in fields including business, history, literature, religion, law, science and mathematics.

OUP will continue to offer full collections of the titles through OSO.

Evan Schnittman, vice president of business development at OUP, said the move would enable the publisher, which is a department of the University of Oxford, to be more responsive to customers.

“Oxford University Press is very excited to expand its ability to sell content in any form our customers want it, be that through our OSO product or the individual e-books that are now available through OCLC NetLibrary,” Schnittman said.

Chip Nilges, vice president of OCLC business development, added: “Oxford University Press offers superior content in a variety of subject areas that has always been particularly attractive to research and academic libraries worldwide.

“Now OCLC NetLibrary enables libraries to select individual e-books from OUP that were previously only available digitally in the Oxford Scholarship Online collection.”

Founded in 1967, OCLC provides computer-based cataloguing, reference, resource sharing, library management and web services to 60,000 libraries in 112 countries.
