Content management specialist Vignette has divided its Content Suite V6 into Standard and Enterprise editions, which are available now. The move is designed to make it easier for departments to adopt the technology, Vignette said.
The new Standard Edition comes with a six-processor licence and will lack several features, including integrated search, pre-built multiple site support, and foreign language support. The Standard Edition will also have fewer reporting capabilities, but the price, starting at $200,000 (£140,000), is about half what the newly renamed Enterprise Edition typically costs.
The Enterprise Edition, which was the original full version of Content Suite V6, will come with a 14-processor licence.
"[With the Standard Edition] we're targeting customers who need a very simple solution to meet the needs of a particular task," said Santi Pierini, vice president of product strategy at Vignette.
Pierini said the new packaging is more closely aligned with Vignette's sales strategy. "Most of our new customers are at the department level, and most of our revenues come from existing customers who expand their use of our technology," he said. Pierini said Vignette has offered flexible pricing and features to customers before, but the new packaging will do more to promote that flexibility and encourage more departments to use V6.
