Sybase subsidiary iAnywhere Solutions last week released a new version of its Pylon Application Server, which extends Lotus Domino applications to smartphones and handheld clients. The new edition features a web-based architecture that makes it easier to manage and use mobile Domino applications, the firm said.
Pylon Application Server 6.0, available immediately, uses the firm's M-Business Anywhere technology that delivers web-based content and applications to a wide variety of mobile devices. "With Pylon Application Server 6.0, Domino developers can quickly and easily build cross-platform mobile applications while realising all the benefits of a web-based solution," said iAnywhere's product manager, Diana Ungersma.
A web-based architecture makes it easier to deploy and upgrade applications, since all changes made to the server are instantly available to all mobile clients, according to iAnywhere. It also enables companies to easily deploy other, non-Domino web-based applications using the same server. A web-based management console provides administrators with user, group and application tracking information.
The new version also introduces support for JavaScript client-side business logic, allowing for validation of captured information at the client end before the data is synchronised back to the server.
Pylon Application Server 6.0 is priced at $149 (£84) per seat.
The company also last week announced that its Mobile Sales version 2.1 application has been validated by enterprise vendor Siebel to work with its Siebel 7 CRM application.
