Fujitsu Siemens Computers has launched two energy-saving desktop systems that cut electricity consumption by up to 23 percent, according to the firm. The announcement was made as part of the European Commission’s Green Week, from 30 May to 2 June.
The Esprimo E5615 small form factor PC and P5615 microtower, available in mid-June, are based on AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processors up to model number 4600+, and can have up to 4GB of memory. The two models reduce energy consumption enough for a firm with 100 such systems to save up to £6,800 on electricity per year, Fujitsu Siemens said.
The company said its PCs can also save such customers a further £750 on electricity thanks to a switched monitor outlet design that automatically cuts power to the display when the PC is shut down.
“Fujitsu Siemens Computers stands for exceptionally resource-friendly production methods and environmentally-sustainable products,” said the firm’s executive vice-president for volume products, Peter Esser. He added that since January this year, Fujitsu Siemens PCs and laptops have complied with the EC RoHS restrictions on heavy metals and other toxic substances in electrical goods. The restrictions come into force on 1 July 2006 for all new products sold.
The vendor said that rising energy prices have prompted more demand from businesses for power-saving PCs, but that there has also been pressure from employees for greener workplace standards. Fujitsu Siemens said that research conducted on its behalf found that 37 percent of UK staff are actively lobbying for greener polices.
The Esprimo E5615 and Esprimo E5615 are priced from £439.
