Websense enters the data security market

Websense has announced plans to enter the data leak prevention market with Port Authority deal

Written by Phil Muncaster

Content filtering and web security firm Websense today announced plans to enter the data leak prevention market, with an agreement to use technology from a specialist in the area, PortAuthority Technologies.

As part of the new product line, Websense will use Deep Content Control technology that will help firms control which data leaves the organisation in an automated way.

The new products will integrate with the management capabilities for URL filtering and security, and endpoint security capabilities in current Websense offerings, according to the firm's senior product manager for Europe, Ross Paul.

"Large companies are becoming affected by [data leakage] and they are requiring stronger control over data," he said. "This is very complementary to what we already do – protecting employees from visiting risky web sites. Now these policies can be extended to what kind of information these users can send and how."
