Palm updates Treo 750 with HSDPA support

Treo 750 smartphone is now generally available across Europe

Written by Daniel Robinson

Palm has announced general availability of its Treo 750 smartphone in Europe, and said it has upgraded the device to support 3G networks with the high-speed HSDPA data service.

The handset has been available since October on Vodafone's network as the Treo 750v, but can be purchased SIM-free from Palm's online store for about £365 + VAT from February 6 onwards. A Palm spokesperson said that the Treo 750 will also be available through other carriers in the near future.

An update to the handset has added support for 3G networks with HSDPA, which enables the Treo 750 to download data from the Internet at speeds up to 1.4Mbit/s.

“There are over 5 million Treo smartphones sold globally to date, and continuing to expand the Treo footprint is a key focus for Palm. The addition of HSDPA is just one of the great benefits the new Treo 750 smartphone has to offer professionals who want a strong mobile computing experience," Palm European vice president Roy Bedlow said in a statement.

The Treo 750 is based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5.0 software, but adds Palm's own user interface enhancements such as Google search integration, the ability to quickly find and dial a contact, threaded views of SMS messages, and the ability to cancel a call with a text message to say you are busy.

As with other Windows Mobile 5.0 handsets, the Treo 750 supports push delivery of emails from servers running Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2 and ships with Microsoft's Office Mobile application suite.
