Novell tightens endpoint security

Written by Dave Bailey

Enterprise software vendor Novell has announced its acquisition of endpoint security vendor Senforce Technologies for an undisclosed sum.

Novell said that the acquisition would strengthen its Zenworks family of systems management tools by allowing it to offer "integrated enterprise configuration and security management", all managed from a single screen. The system is designed to let IT managers enforce policies against three groupings - data and business processes, the device itself and the device's connectivity.

Novell already offers Senforce's Endpoint Security Suite (ESS) as Zenworks Endpoint Security Management (ESM). Senforce Wi-Fi Security Solution is also offered as Zenworks USB/Wireless Security, but this is a cut-down version of ESM that offers USB control, connectivity security and file encryption features, according to the firm

Novell said that it would be honouring existing Senforce contracts and that customers would continue to be supported in the manner that they were used to. "All Senforce support contracts will remain in place and be transitioned to Novell standard contracts upon renewal" the vendor said.
