Lotus Sametime Standard 8 lands in December

IBM is delivering an upgraded Lotus Sametime package and an SMB-focussed system on December 3

Written by Dave Bailey

IBM's Lotus Sametime Standard 8, previously known as Lotus Sametime, and a new SMB-focussed package, Lotus Sametime Entry will be available on 3 December.

New features in Standard 8 include, expanded platform support for IBM Lotus Domino 8 server and server support for VMware environments. Device support has been extended to Nokia's E-series, Sony Ericsson, and Windows Mobile 6 devices. There are new point-to-point video capabilities for Mac users and Standard 8 now offers integration with Microsoft Office 2007

IBM said the Sametime Entry package gave SMBs an alternative to public IM or proprietary systems. Entry supports multiple server and client OSs and IBM say it doesn't "typically require desktop or server upgrades." Like Standard 8, Entry integrates with Microsoft Office and has IM, multi-person chat, presence awareness and chat history capabilities, allowing users to archive business-critical discussions.
