Infosys expands to Mexico

Business consultancy Infosys has released details of its Mexican move

Written by Rosalie Marshall

Infosys has formerly announced the opening of a new centre in Monterrey, Mexico to enhance IT services for clients in the US, Latin America and Europe.

The subsidiary marks Infosys’ first move into Latin America offering the company’s full range of services.

“The IT services we find particularly interesting to offer include same time zone application support, ITIL service desk help, and Oracle and SAP talent,” said
Mohit Joshi, Infosys global head of sales for banking & capital markets.

Joshi said Infosys had chosen Mexico because of its population size, its large graduate pool, its proximity to the US and the fact that it contains the largest Spanish speaking population. Also, people are often comfortable working in Mexico and it is relatively easy for Americans to get visas there, Joshi said.

Infosys unveiled its new centre at a ceremony in Monterey, Mexico, attended by the President of Mexico.

“Mexico has embraced Infosys and worked with us to establish this innovative development centre,” said N. R, Narayana Murthy, Infosys’ chairman of the board and chief mentor.

“Our public-private partnership is already serving a half-dozen global clients in multiple industries and 87 new employees, both new college graduates as well as senior professionals, have joined Infosys so far—remarkable achievements in the first six months since opening the center,” Murthy added.

The Infosys board gave the go ahead for the centre’s development in April. In July the centre was incorporated into the company, while September saw the firm hire its first set of local staff and November was the launch of its first client project, Joshi said.

The new centre adds to those Infosys has set up in the Czech Republic, Poland, Thailand, Philippines, china, Australia, Canada and India.
