David Davis has used the e-crime Congress to launch a report into new approaches to tackling cybercrime, an issue which he described as being a "serious threat to individuals, business and government".
Announcing the report Davis accused Labour of having ignored the issue, and pledged a lot of effort from the Conservatives to solve it. Included in the proposals are the creation of a new national cybercrime unit, the establishment of a specially focussed team within the Crown Prosecution Service, and the appointment of a minister with the responsibility for cybercrime.
The report says that the current government has a naive over-reliance on new technology that is both attractive to attackers, and very vulnerable.
Davis adds, "To protect ourselves… will require a shake up in attitudes and strategy, including the whole mindset of government."
