Watchguard banks on mobile workers

Watchguard launches new SSL VPN technology

Written by Dave Bailey

Network security vendor Watchguard Technologies today unveiled new secure sockets layer (SSL) virtual private network (VPN) systems designed to secure mobile and remote connections to corporate networks.

Watchguard is banking on mobility delivering increased productivity, and has released two models, the SSL 500 and SSL 1000, both of which give clientless SSL VPN access to corporate systems for workers. Other features WatchGuard thinks will increase its market share are;the ability to allow IT administrators to use SMS and software two-factor authentication, single sign-on, federated identity, and endpoint integrity features.

Both the SSL 500 and 1000 systems will be available from WatchGuard resellers in 30 days. The SSL 1000 with a 10-user license costs £4,825, while the SSL 500 similarly licensed costs £2,850. WatchGuard is punting a 'Trade-Up' offer with which it hopes to lure customers having competing products and/or legacy systems.
