BMC acquires BladeLogic

BMC's purchase of BladeLogic will increase its portfolio and help firms manage datacentres

Written by Rosalie Marshall

Business service management expert BMC has announced that it will be acquiring data centre automation vendor BladeLogic in order to help organisations decrease spend on running data centres. BMC will be purchasing BladeLogic for approximately £398m.

“BladeLogic automates the creation of a server and the entire stack,” said Bob Beauchamp, BMC chief executive, adding, “Adding BladeLogic to BMC’s portfolio, including its latest purchase of RealOps, will reduce customer’s costs and increase their compliance because they can set up their ideal server and monitor it to ensure nothing changes from its ideal state.”

The firm believes the acquisition will lead the next step of its Business Service Management strategy and said it shows BMC's continuing commitment to be at the forefront of automated IT management solutions.

“Customers of the combined solution can expect a 90 per cent improvement in IT operational efficiency in 90 days, as well as address the critical challenges of compliance, virtualization, and availability,” said the firm in a report.

Beauchamp said the acquisition was a logical move because BladeLogic’s growth at 90 per cent since last year meant that it was one of the fastest growing companies in the world.

“Also, BladeLogic’s solution portfolio is already closely integrated into the Atrium Configuration Management Database,” he said.

Beauchamp added that since acquiring runbook automation tools provider RealOps , which was often sold integrated together with BladeLogic, the latest acquisition had been on the cards. He said that BMC will work to “dramatically improve the synergy” between BladeLogic and RealOps but that BladeLogic customers currently working with other runbook autonmation providers should not be disrupted.
