EMC embraces physical security

Verint partnership brings physical security in to IT

Written by Rosalie Marshall

EMC is to partner with IP video firm Verint Systems, aiming to bring physical security controls in to its information management portfolio.

The partnership will combine Verint's IP-based video with tools that let users analyse security data, such as images captured by CCTV cameras.

EMC said it entered the physical security market in response to enterprises' accelerating use of IP-based surveillance.

“The vast amount of data created by these systems is challenging information managers to effectively capture, analyse and store security data,” said EMC in a report. “EMC Physical Security Solutions integrate physical security information from a wide range of data sources and help automate the analysis and management of the information.”

EMC Global Solutions Group senior director, Dick O’Leary, said EMC had decided on Verint as a partner because over a year ago it had committed to invest its own resources into EMC’s direction and product roadmap.

EMC said the implementation of the physical security solutions will incorporate its CLARiiON- based storage solution and Verint IP video technologies.

“EMC’s new services, in conjunction with EMC’s and Verint’s technologies, help customers manage everything in one place to make better decisions and provide comprehensive security across the entire organisation,” said Todd Pavone, EMC global solutions vice president, said in a statement.
