The House of Lords Science Committee is to follow up on its earlier personal internet security report, it said today.

The Lords published its initial report in August last year, and in doing so made a number of recommendations to the government. Specifically, it urged it to do more to restore public faith in technology, and take action to stop the view that it was the end users' responsibility to ensure that their computer systems were secure.

In order to facilitate this, it made four recommendations. It suggested that a data breach notification law be created, that the police get more funding to cope with crime, that individuals be allowed to report security problems to the police, and that a badge be created that could be applied to sites that meet a specific number of security criteria.

For this second report the Lords will look at how the government has reacted to these suggestions, and will it said, make more suggestions designed to improve the individual's use of new technology.

The report will be published next Tuesday.
