Replication tool provides failover for Citrix virtual machines

SteeleEye unveil disaster protection for virtual machines

Written by Daniel Robinson

SteelEye Technology has introduced a suite of tools to provide disaster protection for virtual machines running on Citrix XenServer infrastructure.

Aimed at enterprises migrating business-critical functions to virtual servers in a datacentre, the tool delivers real-time replication across both LAN and WAN environments, the firm said.

SteelEye Protection Suite, available immediately, provides continual replication of a virtual server to a standby system, enabling it to be brought into service as necessary for business continuity purposes. It runs within the XenServer Console OS to provide replication of virtual machines across any LAN or WAN network connection.

One-to-many replication lets customers copy a single virtual machine to multiple target systems for multi-site disaster recovery or cloning of servers, according to the firm. The tool uses built-in compression and replicates the differences only once up and running.

"The migration of enterprise applications to virtual environments continues at a rapid pace and through collaboration with companies like Citrix, we're helping customers of all sizes ensure their data is safe and their business operations run uninterrupted," said SteelEye president and chief executive Garrett Gafke.
