Review: Viewsonic VX2435wm monitor

A widescreen display with an HDMI connection suitable for HD use

The VX2435wm is an impressive-looking TFT display that's finished in Viewsonic’s usual glossy black and embellished with silver trim.

Its design incorporates subtle curves that lend it a more stylish appearance while still remaining visually appropriate for corporate use.

Not simply a larger version of the 22in VX2235, this new 24in model uses an MVA panel (see here for more information of TFT technology) and has a redesigned rear to allow space for a selection of additional inputs.

The VX2435wm has no DVI connector; instead a converter cable is supplied that allows you to connect your PC’s DVI port direct to the HDMI socket. In addition to the component video, there are VGA, composite and S-video inputs, all of which are housed in an unusual vertical orientation behind a very large removable rear panel. This also conceals a standard Vesa fitting for wall-mounting.

With its larger screen, 1,920x1,200 pixels and HDMI and component video inputs, the VX2435wm is clearly aiming to please fans of multimedia and HD video. This is also evident from the fact that it’s incredibly bright – you’ll have no problem watching video from the other side of a well-lit room. The brightness setting goes up to 100, and it’s telling that, for desktop use, our preferred brightness setting was zero.

Thankfully, you don’t need to keep making such adjustments as seven different viewing presets are provided, including a text mode that dims the display to a comfortable level. There’s also a three-way skin tone adjustment for natural looking images.

Despite these viewing presets, colour saturation could have been better. While image reproduction is smooth and devoid of banding or artefacts, colours look a little washed out when compared to similar displays. However, viewing angles and image contrast are both very good.
