Dell considers selling via UK high-street shops

Success in the Wild West blows to the UK forPC maker

Written by Emil Larsen

Dell's CEO Kevin Rollins has suggested he's interested in opening retail stores in the UK, according to PCretailmag.

The revelation comes after the successful launch of Dell's first ever show room in Texas in July. The Texan store doesn't actually let customers walk away with computers but instead allows them to see and order them for future delivery.

Dell is a company in change, with it recently ditching the Intel-only policy it harboured for 21 years and adding AMD's increasingly popular chips to its PCs.

For the last 22 years Dell has used a direct to customer business model, avoiding retail shops and the problem of the supply chain to cut costs. But now it is battling to reverse a slide that has seen profits down by half according to its second quarter 2006 financial results.

Dell's UK press office refused to comment on the story, simply saying "we don’t have an announcement at this time".
